“Dina come blow your horn” was one of Otto's melodies that some of us will always remember him saying.
Otto was born on August 20, 1930 at home on the Rothenberger farm. He was the 14th child born of 17 to Martha
(Nanny) and Gottfried (Pa) Rothenberger. Otto was a hunter when he had to put food on the table but he loved
fishing, raising animals and gardening. He worked hard for most of his life as a farmer on the Rothenberger farm and
dedicated his life to his mother. He loved kids and they adored him. He had a big heart and was very generous.
In 2003, a stroke left him unable to care for himself so his brother Gottfried took him in and cared for him for about a
year until he too had health issues. His sister Gertrude then moved Otto into her home and cared for him for four
years until his death on October 12, 2008. His passing affected many people; his brother Gottfried and his sister
Gertrude, who cared for him despite her own health issues, a long list of nieces and nephews, each of whom had
close personal relationships with him, and all the friends who knew him or in his last years got to know him. I have very
fond memories of him as I’m sure all of his nieces and nephews have. He was very special to me and I miss him very
much. We love you Otto and we will never forget you.
